The 1st Generation Band was absolutely fantastic for our wedding!! We had so much fun, and everyone was dancing the whole time! Every one of our guests told us how much they enjoyed the band, and they always kept the party going. Everyone was saying the same thing when it was over, that it went by too fast! The band leader Morris was such a joy to work with, he’s so friendly and easy to work with. His number one priority was to make sure we had the best time at our reception, and we had an absolute blast! It’s a night we’ll never forget!! We are literally writing this the day after our wedding on the plane to our honeymoon – that’s how good this band is. 1st Generation is simply the only band you should be considering for your wedding. We had countless guests asking all night who they are and how we found them. They absolutely crushed it. People were out on the dance floor, young and old, all night, and having a blast. They curated the set list exactly to our preference and also brought their signature style that made it unique and memorable. Not only will they play great music – you will feel that they are truly celebrating your marriage alongside you. These are genuine people who light up at the beauty of a wedding. Multiple folks in the band gave us genuine advice from their decades of marriage and earnest encouragement and well-wishes. Also – Morris will be a bright spot in an otherwise potentially overwhelming planning process – he is the man. Book them – you will not regret it.

1st Generation Band made our wedding unforgettable! They were hands down one of the best decisions we made for our big day. From the very first song to the last dance, they kept the energy high and the dance floor packed the entire night. Every guest, young and old, was raving about how amazing the music was. They read the crowd perfectly, transitioned seamlessly between songs, and created the most fun, lively atmosphere we could’ve imagined. They were also so easy to work with leading up to the wedding! Professional, communicative, and willing to accommodate every request we had. The vocals were phenomenal, the musicians were top-tier, and the overall vibe they brought made the night feel like a concert in the best way possible. If you’re on the fence about hiring them just do it! You will not regret it. They truly made our reception everything we dreamed of and more!
Best wedding band ever!!!! All of our guests kept saying that, and we agree. 1st Generation Band kept us on our feet all night. I was so surprised and delighted when I sat down to my meal after the special dances and saw a dozen couples already on the dance floor tearing it up before entrees were served. 1st Generation Band really knows how to bring the energy and sustain it. Their range of repertoire is amazing — from jazz standards to Motown and Soul to contemporary dance hits and more. Morris, the band leader, was so wonderful to work with. He went above and beyond to absorb all that we shared with him about our preferences, timeline, requests, etc. and he and the band learned our father-daughter dance song to perfection. Morris and 1st Generation Band made our wedding extra perfect and they covered all genres of music! Their wedding playlist is expansive and they even took the time to play our wedding dance song which was not on their list. Thank you! I can’t say enough good things about their professionalism, the music, the singers, the way they got everyone involved, the way they took the time to setup early and cleared out when done. Morris is very easy to work with and a great guy to talk to. They are the 1st and will make your wedding so very memorable!

Sorry this is such a late response, life got a little crazy after the wedding and then I completely forgot to respond! We were both blown away by1st Generation Band. We had high expectations based on what we read and heard online, and they not only met those expectations but exceeded them. The songs they picked for the song list based on our preferences were spot on – we loved every song they played. A lot of our guests were on the dance floor the whole time they were playing because of the energy and passion of the band, as well as how good they sounded. We got a ton of compliments all night about how great they were. We were so happy to have them be a part of our day and would definitely recommend them to anyone else looking for a band for their wedding.

1st Generation Band was absolutely incredible. While they came highly recommended from you and we enjoyed their sizzle reel during the selection/booking process, we have to say that their live performance far exceeded our expectations. Many of our guests have commented that they were one of the best wedding bands they’ve ever seen, and we would happily agree.
Morris was a delight to work with. After being forced to cancel our wedding multiple times (due to COVID), his positive attitude and genuine excitement to perform made us equally excited for the big day to arrive. He was sincerely interested in gathering information ahead of time to ensure that the performance was exactly what we and our guests wanted. And boy, was it ever!
The day before the wedding, Morris contacted Matt to confirm that he had our correct first dance song selections. There was a discrepancy in what we provided the band vs. what our coordinator had noted within the timeline, so we greatly appreciated him reaching out to ensure it was right.
The day of the wedding, the band arrived early to do sound checks and make sure it wasn’t too loud for our guests in the ballroom. During the cocktail hour, we had arranged for a band member to play cocktail keys. One of our biggest regrets is that we did not forego the couples private dining moment to go downstairs and enjoy the music. We’ve heard he was amazing and that it really set the tone for the evening. Personally, I could tell how much I was going to love the band the second Matt and I made our grand entrance. They were super talented, high energy and found a way to be engaging while still maintaining safe distancing due to COVID.
Lastly, we would be remiss if we did not mention how much we’ve appreciated Sam Hill and 1st Generation Band flexibility, patience and understanding over the past two years. In what was a really terrible time for both the couples trying to get married and the businesses/vendors impacted by constant cancellations and rescheduled events, you both constantly rolled with the punches and did everything you could to make our lives easier. THANK YOU SO MUCH, as not all vendors were as courteous.
Now, how do I go about booking 1st Generation Band for Matti’s 40th birthday? It’s only a few years away.

I can sum up our experience with the 1st Generation Band in one word – AMAZING!!! They absolutely made the event the success that it was. They did a wonderful job with the songs they learned for the reception, including the couple’s first dance (which was choreographed – it looked like they had rehearsed with the band for hours!). The band’s energy, excitement, and song selection kept the guests on their feet the entire evening.
Additionally, Morris was great to work with before and during the event. I particularly appreciated their flexibility as we had to change things up a bit at the last minute in response to Covid-19 related safeguards.
Hiring the 1st Generation Band was one of the best choices we made for my daughter’s wedding reception and I would highly recommend them to anyone one looking to host a special event.

The 1st Generation Band was truly phenomenal from start to finish! They were great about communicating with us before the wedding, and they absolutely nailed our first dance song! We have spoken to numerous guests who told us that it was the best wedding they’ve ever been to, and we both know that 1st Generation Band played a huge part in that. We had concerns about out wedding organist and our wedding planner asked the group leader about the brass possibly playing Trumpets Voluntary themselves or with the organist. They said they could do it and did. They added a draw touch and helped us out. They were great and easy to work with.

The 1st Generation Band came highly recommended to us by my aunt and uncle who went to a New Year’s Eve party that they were playing at a few years ago, and we are so happy that we took their recommendation! Morris was wonderful to work with, I have a pretty hectic job and he was so patient with me while we were trying to coordinate and nail everything down for the wedding. He was so helpful, funny, and kind! Many of our guests have since asked us about the band, and complimented what a great job they did! Our photographers told us that our reception was the most fun reception that they had ever covered! We had a wonderful time, and they played all of the songs that I asked them to play, they had great energy, and they even let one of our very close family friends who is a singer, join them on stage for a song! Their high energy and great song choices even had my husband (who has not one rhythmic bone in his body) out on the dance floor, and as far as i’m concerned, that made it a successful night for me!
It was such a perfect night, and we are so glad that we chose them for our entertainment!

I wish the reception lasted a few more hours, because I know that everyone (including Davis and I) were not ready to leave. The dance floor was packed the entire night. Morris was wonderful to work with, and was great at communicating with me via email and phone. If I was being honest, we took a leap of faith when we booked First Generation. You were so professional, so thoughtful (playing “I Loved Her First” and starting with “Born in the USA” – it was so apparent that you were paying attention and into our wedding), you were dressed to the nine, and you were so much fun! As we told you, the band was the most important thing to us for our wedding and you surpassed anything we could have hoped for. We just arrived back home last night, after taking a few days off after Mollie & Jonathan’s wedding (May 10th, 2015). I wanted to let you know how fabulous the 1st Generation Band was! As my dad (84 years old) said to me the morning after the wedding: “The band made the party.” I totally agree! You guys got everyone from 3 to 84 enjoying the music and up on the dance floor. As you could probably tell from our group of family and friends – they had a great time! From the oldies to the beautiful slow dances to the fun contemporary music – everything was a hit. The MC’ing of the evening was perfect – and you guys had a beautiful introduction of the bridal party and the new Mr. and Mrs. Carl!

I’ve been to 100+ weddings, many with great bands that charge considerably more than 1st Generation Band, but I’ve not seen any that deliver performance or atmosphere at any higher level than this group. Their repertoire is extensive, they avoided songs/genres we asked them to avoid, they played a few extra songs for us at the end of the night when NO ONE was ready for the party to be over, and they kept the dance floor packed and grooving all night long. In all honesty, we were working on a tight budget, but we insisted on having a band. 1st Generation was willing to work with our budget, and my only regret is not being able to pay them more. 🙂

We could not have asked for a better band than 1st Generation for our special day. Our wedding was on July 5th, 2014, and my husband and I were able to celebrate our heart out with our family and friends dancing with 1st Generation’s spirit and music.
From our initial rehearsal meeting to the final meeting, Morris, 1st Generation Band Leader, has been prompt and sensitive to our requests and narratives. They listened to our stories and respected our passion for music, our family stories, and how special we wanted our wedding reception to be.
Everyone loved them. Even the stoic Asian elders who find themselves difficult dancing in public! Our mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts, and nephews danced and cried with 1st Generation’s music. The most memorable moment was when everyone was dancing in circle, mixed with smiles and tears, then they played our last song, “Georgia On My Mind” so beautifully.

My husband and I were married in April of this year in Nashville, TN. We both had different thoughts on the wedding, but agreed on one thing….Good Music!!! We searched around through various local bands and online through different resources. When we heard 1st Generation Band we instantly agreed that we had to have them!
1st Generation Band worked with us to make sure we had the music we wanted. We ultimately wanted a good old school Motown/Funk band that would keep the crowd dancing. They were able to play a variety of music from Jazz (great for the parents in the beginning!) to the good old stuff, as well as great new R&B and soul. The crowd danced until the venue closed and they even accommodated our request for our 1st dance and father/daughter dance! The band also did us a special favor in playing Rocky Top to close out the night (UT Alumni and fans!).
Band member Morris Drane worked hard to make sure the night was exactly as we wanted it. I would use them again for any event and would highly recommend them in the future!

I think your song selection was dead on – the variety addressed every generation present. And as a former road warrior, it was a pleasure seeing how much your band members enjoyed themselves. I can’t tell you how much I hate to see bands that just stand there – looking like they would rather be somewhere else – or looking like they are in pain. Neither of my sons had ever heard me perform with a band as I came off the road in 1983 when my oldest was only a year old (and a year before the groom was born). I remember when I was playing clubs and someone would want to sing. Usually it turned out to be more comical than musical! I hope I did not embarrass the band as it has been a long time since I have sang with such a talented group of professionals.

The 1st Generation Band came highly recommended to us by my aunt and uncle who went to a New Year’s Eve party that they were playing at a few years ago, and we are so happy that we took their recommendation! Morris was wonderful to work with, I have a pretty hectic job and he was so patient with me while we were trying to coordinate and nail everything down for the wedding. He was so helpful, funny, and kind! Many of our guests have since asked us about the band, and complimented what a great job they did! Our photographers told us that our reception was the most fun reception that they had ever covered! The music was just what our kids wanted and they were fantastic about working with the crowd. It really made our wedding just perfect!

You were so professional, so thoughtful (playing “I Loved Her First” and starting with “Born in the USA” – it was so apparent that you were paying attention and into our wedding), you were dressed to the nine, and you were so much fun! As we told you, the band was the most important thing to us for our wedding and you surpassed anything we could have hoped for. I heard over and over during the reception that you were the best wedding band my guests had ever seen. You literally blew their mind – they didn’t know a wedding band could be so good! We just arrived back home last night, after taking a few days off after Mollie & Jonathan’s wedding (May 10th, 2015). I wanted to let you know how fabulous the 1st Generation Band was! As my dad (84 years old) said to me the morning after the wedding: “The band made the party.” I totally agree! You guys got everyone from 3 to 84 enjoying the music and up on the dance floor. As you could probably tell from our group of family and friends – they had a great time! From the oldies to the beautiful slow dances to the fun contemporary music – everything was a hit. The MC’ing of the evening was perfect – and you guys had a beautiful introduction of the bridal party and the new Mr. and Mrs. Carl!

I’ve been to 100+ weddings, many with great bands that charge considerably more than 1st Generation Band, but I’ve not seen any that deliver performance or atmosphere at any higher level than this group. Their repertoire is extensive, they avoided songs/genres we asked them to avoid, they played a few extra songs for us at the end of the night when NO ONE was ready for the party to be over, and they kept the dance floor packed and grooving all night long. In all honesty, we were working on a tight budget, but we insisted on having a band. 1st Generation was willing to work with our budget, and my only regret is not being able to pay them more. 🙂

We could not have asked for a better band than 1st Generation for our special day. Our wedding was on July 5th, 2014, and my husband and I were able to celebrate our heart out with our family and friends dancing with 1st Generation’s spirit and music.
From our initial rehearsal meeting to the final meeting, Morris, 1st Generation Band Leader, has been prompt and sensitive to our requests and narratives. They listened to our stories and respected our passion for music, our family stories, and how special we wanted our wedding reception to be.
Everyone loved them. Even the stoic Asian elders who find themselves difficult dancing in public! Our mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts, and nephews danced and cried with 1st Generation’s music. The most memorable moment was when everyone was dancing in circle, mixed with smiles and tears, then they played our last song, “Georgia On My Mind” so beautifully.

My husband and I were married in April of this year in Nashville, TN. We both had different thoughts on the wedding, but agreed on one thing….Good Music!!! We searched around through various local bands and online through different resources. When we heard 1st Generation Band we instantly agreed that we had to have them!
1st Generation Band worked with us to make sure we had the music we wanted. We ultimately wanted a good old school Motown/Funk band that would keep the crowd dancing. They were able to play a variety of music from Jazz (great for the parents in the beginning!) to the good old stuff, as well as great new R&B and soul. The crowd danced until the venue closed and they even accommodated our request for our 1st dance and father/daughter dance! The band also did us a special favor in playing Rocky Top to close out the night (UT Alumni and fans!).
Band member Morris Drane worked hard to make sure the night was exactly as we wanted it. I would use them again for any event and would highly recommend them in the future!

I had a blast. We had a blast. Everyone there had a blast – from the 3 year olds to my 75 year old brother in law. I think your song selection was dead on – the variety addressed every generation present. And as a former road warrior, it was a pleasure seeing how much your band members enjoyed themselves. I can’t tell you how much I hate to see bands that just stand there – looking like they would rather be somewhere else – or looking like they are in pain. Music is to be enjoyed by the performers as well as the listeners and your scored a perfect 10 on both fronts.
On a personal note, it was an honor to sing with you. You did not have to do this and I truly appreciate your gracious offer. Neither of my sons had ever heard me perform with a band as I came off the road in 1983 when my oldest was only a year old (and a year before the groom was born). I remember when I was playing clubs and someone would want to sing. Usually it turned out to be more comical than musical! I hope I did not embarrass the band as it has been a long time since I have sang with such a talented group of professionals.

I hope you are doing well and that all the group enjoyed the summer and all the weddings you entertained.
I recall reading some of the reviews on your site before we booked you and they said oh this group is great and they really got everyone in the mood. I was a little skeptical and I by nature am always a little doubtful.
Well now that we have had over a month to get back into a routine and relive the wedding through pictures and emails from friends I have to tell you something. You and your group definitely were the high point of the evening beside the actual ceremony of course. My children loved singing with you and the family and friends were so surprised and can’t stop raving about how awesome you all were.
Morris, God bless you and above all I appreciated more the anything just what a kind, nice, enthusiastic friend you and your fellow members were to our family. You took such a genuine interest in making our daughters day so meaningful.

The 1st Generation Band was first class their music, their professionalism, and their willingness to make our daughters wedding exceptional. Morris Drane the manager was one of the nicest gentleman I’ve ever worked with. His band members were so polite and respectful, they accommodated our every need and request. They actually learned two new songs and let the bride (my daughter) and my son sing with the band. The crowd from age 86 to 10 months old loved the energy and mood 1st Generation created. Everyone complimented them throughout the night. I highly recommend these nice entertainers and now good friends. You will be very satisfied.

Powell wedding reception
This was my third event using the 1st Generation Band and each time it seems to get better. For this lavish wedding, they provided a keyboard player and a soloist for the ceremony a jazz trio for cocktail hour and a ten piece band for the reception. 1st Generation Band arrived on time, setup on time and met our every request and kept my guests on the dance floor. The leader of the band couldn’t be any nicer or any more accommodating. He was available for every conference call requested, promptly replied to emails and very knowledgeable and up to date with his music catalog. I cannot recommend this band enough!!!! –

At the Blase` Formal Event 1st Generation Band exceeded my expectation with their diversity of performance with their smooth jazz and popping R&B sounds. I was most impressed with their personal dress appearance and professionalism. Mr. Drane showed personal attention to our guest during their break time. A guest from DC area said the band was awesome. Another from Mathews, NC said I got to have 1st Gen at my next function in 2012. The song selection kept the dance floor full and the sounds were smooth and well put together. I must say that this is one of the most talented groups I have heard. The vocals were tight and the audience seemed to really connect with the music. It is truly rare to find vocals, keyboards, sax, rhythm, bass and drums at this level together in one group.
